Embattled Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho has regained his freedom after about two years of house arrest and detention in Benin Republic.

Sunday Igboho was freed on Sunday and has departed for Germany to reunite with his family.

His release was confirmed by the leader of the Yoruba nation group, Professor Banji Akintoye.

Igboho in an interview said he was free to return to Nigeria or visit any country of his choice as he had fulfilled all legal conditions for his bail.

“I am now free to return to Nigeria and visit any country in the world.

“I have fulfilled all the legal conditions attached to my bail few years back and I am coming home to Nigeria, my country of origin, any moment from now.

“There is no legal encumbrance again. Even though I have been living in Cotonou for some time, I can confirm to you categorically that I have now secured the liberty to leave Cotonou for Nigeria,” he said.

In a video released on Facebook, Igboho thanked all those who had supported him during his travail and detention in Benin.

He specifically pointed out the likes of Professor Banji Akintoye, Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo, Ayo Adebanjo, Olugbon of Orile Igbon and deputy chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas, Oba Francis Olushola Alao.

He also thanked Kabiesi Oba Topspin o ni Bariga of Bariga, Oba Tejuoso, Oni Kenta of Orile Kenta, Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan Obateru, and other Yoruba monarchs for their support.
