The Northern Youths For Good Governance (NYGG) has urged G7-backed aspirants to their ambitions and back Dr Tajudeen Abass for Speaker of the 10th National Assembly.
The group also urged Abass to contact the G7 and other members-elect in order to persuade them to work in the party’s best interests.
The group, led by Abdullahi Bilal, stated at a news conference in Abuja that as the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, it was incumbent on the dissatisfied candidates to accept the party’s decision in order to ensure that members of the opposition party do not undermine the APC.
Also, the group requested the G7, which includes Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, Muktar Aliyu Betara, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Aminu Sani Jaji, Miriam Onuoha, and Sada Soli, to put their differences with Abass aside for the sake of the country.
The Northern Youths group also urged Abass to contact the G7 and other members-elect in order to persuade them to work in the party’s best interests.
‘Only A United House’
It said: “We are aware of the dissatisfaction that has greeted Hon Tajudeen Abbass’ nomination by the APC as the candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as the strong opposition put forward by the eminent G7 group in the House of Representatives.
“While they have the right to express their displeasure with Hon Tajudeen Abass’ selection, they must understand that only a united house can stand; thus, all parties must support Hon Tajudeen Abbas’ candidacy.
“He is without a doubt one of the most experienced members of the House of Representatives.
“His contributions on the floor have been notable, as has his leadership of various committees under his purview.

“Honourable Tajudeen Abbas is a bridge-builder who appreciates the House of Representatives’ strategic relevance in the country’s socioeconomic development.
“Given that Hon Tajudeen Abass has the President-Elect’s support, we would like to use this medium to appeal to the G7 and other members-elect to understand why Hon Tajudeen Abass was chosen.
“The APC must remain united at the risk of allowing some dramatic outcomes during the elections of House of Representatives principal officers.
“The decision to back Hon Tajudeen Abbass is in the best interests of the party, not because he is the finest candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“Hon. Tajudeen Abbas is a devoted party member with a strong sense of teamwork.
“He has a reputation for bringing everyone along, and we believe he would do so if elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
