Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is closer to retaining the governorship of Lagos State for the next four years. With the collation of result still ongoing, what we know so far is that he is leading in 15 of the 20 local governments that have been announced.

Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu Is Seeking A second Term

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is still collating the governorship election results from the March 18 elections conducted Lagos State.

In that election, Governor Sanwo-Olu is seeking a second term in office and he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

So far, he has got 718,595 votes attached to his name from collation of 15 local government results on Sunday.

Following Sanwo-Olu in the polls is the candidate of the Labour Party (LP)’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

He has 257,502 from the 15 LGs announced so far.

In the third place,so far, is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran aka Jandor. He has 59,172 votes from the local governments.

Seekers Of Second Term

Only 28 states in Nigeria took part in the governorship election of March 18.

Eight states, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo, have governorship elections at different times. The reasons is that some court judgements unseat a governor and proclaim an opponent winner.

Sanwo-Olu is one of the 11 governors seeking a second term in office.

There was so much hope for the Labour party in the governorship election, after Peter Obi polled 582,454 votes in Lagos in the presidential election.

Lagos is the stronghold of the presidential candidate of the APC, who only polled 572,606 votes.

The state appears to be tilting towards the holds of the APC till 2027.

Earlier, the Labour Party leadership had said there was voter apathy in the elections, as a result of how INEC handled the presidential election.

Low turn out of voters was recorded in different areas of Lagos State.
