The arrest of the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has set the internet ablaze with numerous reactions from Nigerians.

Nigerians were busy facing the fuel scarcity when report of Abure’s arrest by operatives of the Nigerian Police in Benin City, Edo State, emerged.

At first, the circumstances leading to his arrest was not clear, leaving many to believe that it was related to the ongoing crisis within the party.

The Petition

However, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Zone 5, Tijani Momoh, addressed the issue on Wednesday.

To Momoh, Abure was arrested for attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and related offences.

Momoh said that Abure and four others were arrested over a petition written against them by a petitioner whose name he did not mention.
