As a result of the incident, the banks, including Zenith, Keystone, First Bank, and United Bank for Africa (UBA), say their operations in Epe will be on hold until further notice.

According to a source, the attack occurred as a result of the general public’s inability to get cash from the affected banks.

However, the source said that the problem has been resolved.

The Ojota-Mile 12 region of the state experienced an unrest on Friday morning. That incident was quelled by security personnel before the Epe tragedy.

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning that anyone caught robbing banks in an act of protest will be treated as an armed robber.

This was said by the Force’s spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a video that was uploaded to the NPF’s Facebook page on February 18, 2023.

“We complain that banks don’t attend to us yet we go to their facilities and set them ablaze, destroy ATMs.

“How do you want them to serve you better if you have destroyed their facilities?” Adejobi asked.

“I think we need to educate ourselves on what the law says about this. You don’t go to any bank, ATM, or financial institution to attack.

“It is criminal and tantamount to armed robbery. If you are caught in the act, you will be treated as an armed robber.”

Destroying banks facilities, won’t solve the Naira scarcity crisis and we all will still bear the consequences if the bank shut down operation.
