₦32.4m New Notes Intercepted In Lagos

Few hours to the general election in Nigeria, many Nigerians are still not able to get money to meet their petty purchases.

New notes released by the Central Bank of Nigeria are missing in action.

From what we now see, we can tell that the money had been offered to politicians for a reward.

On Friday, the truth began to surface.

For the first time in years, Nigerians have hailed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The reason is no secret. It is because of the interception of 32.4 million Naira which has been set aside by some politicians for vote buying at Saturday’s election in Lagos.

War Against Vote Buying

The Buhari-led Administration had declared war against vote buying in Nigeria.

This big find is coming hours after hard currencies were intercepted in Rivers State.

In Port Harcourt, Chinyere Igwe, a PDP House of Representatives member was arrested with huge amount of foreign currency.

Igwe had said that the $500,000 US Dollar in his possession was given to him by his Party’s presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar to lure voters in Rivers State.

Shockingly, security and INEC officials were beneficiaries of the funds, according to the list found on Igwe.

The anti-graft agency in a statement via Twitter stated that the suspects involved was taken into custody for questioning.

EFCC further implored the general public to report anyone trying to buy or sell votes during the elections tomorrow.

A statement by the anti-graft agency reads: “The massive operation by the EFCC to deter vote trading and other financial malfeasance ahead of tomorrow’s presidential and national assembly elections may have begun paying dividends…

“…with the interception in Lagos of the sum of ₦32,400,000 (Thirty-two Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) allegedly suspected to be used for vote buying in Lagos.

“The recovery was made by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Commission.

“The suspect involved has been taken into custody for further questioning.

“The Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has implored all personnel of the Commission deployed for election monitoring duties to show courage and not give room for unscrupulous persons to undermine the integrity of the elections through financial inducement.”

Hotlines To Call

Furthermore, tactical teams of operatives are currently on ground in all the states of the federation and the FCT.

Telephone hotlines have already been circulated through social media for members of the public to share information regarding financial malpractices with agents of the Commission

“Members of the public are encouraged to report anyone trying to buy or sell votes by making use of the EFCC financial crimes reporting App, Eagle Eye, which is available for download on the Google Play or Apple store.”
