The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2022, redesigned the N200, N500, and N1000 notes, giving a January 31st deadline for the old notes to become illegal tender.

However, the CBN, on Sunday, extended the deadline to February 10 to allow more time for Nigerians to return old notes.

In a tweet on Sunday, Ologbondiyan said the deadline was extended as a result of Atiku’s involvement.

Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, joined many others to call for an extension of the CBN’s deadline.

Ologbondiyan tweeted, “ Nigerians have @atiku to thank for his patriotic appeal to the Federal Government to extend the deadline for submission of the old naira notes.”

He said Atiku’s involvement was what separated him from his opponent in the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“While it is always about patriotism and the feelings of Nigerians for @atiku, is its always about the self for BAT,” he continued.

Taking a jab at Tinubu whom bullion vans were spotted at his home in Bourdillon on the eve of the 2019 election, the campaign spokesperson advised the CBN to monitor the distribution of the new notes during the extended period and ensure that “the bullion van politician does not hijack the new notes”.
