See How Gov’t Policies Made 2023 Challenging For Poultry Business

Poultry farmers under the aegis of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) have said no matter how you look at it 2023 was very turbulent.

The farmers pointed accusing fingers at the government saying that it was responsible for the challenges they faced in the year.

They however hoped the government would be more sensitive to their plight in times to come.

Poultry farmers have voiced concerns over the adverse effects of certain government policies and programs on the poultry industry during the year 2023.

The National President of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Sunday Ezeobiora, made this revelation known.

Ezeobiora is also the Chairman of SUNCHI Integrated Farms Ltd which celebrated its 10th anniversary in Enugu, Enugu State.

Ezeobiora acknowledged that 2023 had been particularly challenging for poultry farmers in Nigeria, including those operating under the umbrella of SUNCHI farms.

Major Challenges That Affected Poultry Business In 2023

“In all the years we have been in operation, 2023 has been hugely remarkable as it is the year three major government policies almost ran us out of business,” he said.

“The naira redesign policy, fuel subsidy removal, and devaluation of the currency affected our business just like every business in Nigeria.”

Not forgetting how flood destroyed the businesses of some of our members across the country during the year.

The majority of those whose poultry were affected are still licking their wounds, having lost their businesses to a natural disaster.

According to the national president of PAN, “For all the challenges we encountered in 2023, we may not easily forget the year.”

Ezeobiora however called on the federal government to come to the aid of poultry farmers by providing grants and support with animal feeds.

He noted that should poultry businesses shut down in totality across the nation, the masses would feel the impact.
