The Federal Government proposes N200Bn For Universities and has stated that it can only afford to provide lecturers of all types a 23.5 percent pay raise, with the exception of professors, who would receive a 35 percent pay increase.

Mallam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, made this statement yesterday during a meeting with the provost and vice provost of federal universities over the current strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The governing bodies of the institutions to which such services were provided, as well as the staff members who performed such services, will henceforth pay allowances that belong to ad hoc staffs of academic and non-academic personnel as at when due, he added.

According to him, the federal universities would receive N150 billion in funding for revitalization in the 2023 budget, which would be distributed to the institutions in the first quarter of the year.

Additionally, he stated that the first quarter of 2023’s budget will include N50 billion for the payment of professors’ accrued academic allowances that were not yet paid in full.
