The Lagos State Police Command says Istifanus Kwanchi, one of its officers who was seen on camera shooting in Ladipo Market, is now on trial.

Through his official X handle, Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this on Wednesday.

However, the event comes after a video of a police officer amid Lagos citizens celebrating the reopening of Ladipo Market.

Among the people, Kwanchi was observed shooting bullets in the air with an AK-47 rifle.

In response to the event, the Lagos Police Command announced that Kwanchi will face disciplinary action.

Also, he will be punished for acting in an unsafe, unethical, and unprofessional manner.

However, the public was reassured by the command that deviant behaviour from its men will not be tolerated.

“The Lagos State Police Command has identified the person in a viral video shooting an AK-47 rifle in Ladipo Market as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, serving in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against the officer for his unprofessional, unethical and dangerous behaviour.

“Meanwhile, members of the public are at this moment assured that the command will not tolerate any form of deviant behaviour from its officers and men.

“Also, while those found culpable will be dealt with following laid down rules,” it stated.

Ladipo Market was shut by the government, demanding that traders clean up the market.

The decision halted every activity in Lagos’s major car spare parts market, making people lose some money.
