Jubilation As Yobe Govt Lifts Ban On Motorbike For eleven years the government of Yobe State stopped young guys in the state from hustling with motorbike. The ban on motorbike has forced many to look into other forms of livelihood.

Young men in the state were stopped from using motorcycles as a means of transportation across the seven local government council area of the state due the Boko Haram insurgency.

But all that is changing now.

When the ban on motorbike was lifted it was a jubilant scene in the state.

The news came from Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam, the governor’s special advisor on security affairs.

Condition For Users

However, there is a condition that comes with this lifted ban on motorbike.

He warns those who want to use their Okada (motorcycle) to ensure that their operation time is from 6:00AM to 6:00PM  everyday.

Also, it must not be utilised for business, and cannot transport people.

“Only one rider is permitted per motorbikes and riders in the affected LGAs must be properly registered, licenced, and documented by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority.

“Motorcycles are to operate inside their respective LGAs only and any motorbike rider(s) that ferries passenger(s) would be sanctioned in accordance with existent laws and regulations”.

Moreover, Abdulsalam stated that there would be no motorbike movement between local government areas and that anyone discovered to be in violation would face appropriate sanctions.

Bursari, Geidam, Yunusari, Tarmuwa, Gujba, Gulani, and Damaturu, the state capital, are among the impacted LGAs.
