Everything was going fine for some Borno State fishermen in the evening of March 9, 2023, until Jihadists lunched an attack on them.

The fishing which started on a good note ended with shouts of agony and pain.

At least 37 fishermen were killed in that attack.

The suspected Jihadists opened fire the fishermen outside the Gudu village, located 80 kilometers from the town of Chikun in Borno State.

The incident has once again reminded residents of the northeast community that insecurity of over 10 years is not over.

They say they are tired of the situation.

“The government should either eradicate or call the parties involved and negotiate peace with them.”

Sources say the fishermen were sorting out their catch for the day at the bank of a river when they were ambushed.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

However, Boko Haram insurgents who operate around the area alongside rivals linked with the Islamic State (ISWAP) often attack the locals.

The do this to steal from them or as punishment because they are accused of spying for the military or militia in fighting them.
