Nigerians, particularly Lagosians are indeed not happy with the APC, as well as the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Government. Could it be the lingering pains of the #Endsars protest?
On social media, people go as far as dragging their favourite celebrities who support the incumbent government.
The likes of Toyin Abraham, Seyi Law and other famous celebrities suffered this fate.
Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson, is a regular victim of attacks by fans and Nigerians at large.
This is because, apart from supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the actress is married to a loyal member of the party.
Mercy Johnson Endorses Sanwo-Olu
Again, in the heat of political activities, the screen diva suffered backlash from her fans and Nigerians.
This time, it is for endorsing the incumbent governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term.
The actress via her Instagram page announced Babajide Sanwo-Olu as her choice candidate for the Lagos governorship seat. She will place her thumb in the ballot paper for him in the coming election.
She says the work of his administration is visible and verifiable.
“This is why my choice is Governor Babajide Sanwoolu; His efforts that have improved healthcare, women’s development, transportation, entrepreneurship, education, and infrastructure in Lagos State.
“Key points for me include the handling of the Covid 19 pandemic, entrepreneurship support and all the work behind the scenes helping women who have been victims of domestic violence to supporting their entrepreneurship.
“His results can be seen and measured. Yes, there is still a lot of work left to do, I believe in my heart that he can and will do as he says,” she wrote.
Nigerians React
We cannot say for sure what reactions Mercy Johnson expects after drumming support for Sanwo-Olu, but one thing is clear, Nigerians, including her fans are not happy with her choice.
Would her choice affect her acting career after the elections?, that remains unknown too.
However, some fans threaten that “without them, celebrities are nothing”.
