Japa is a local slang recently used to describe the migration of Nigerians in huge numbers to foreign countries.

The use of the student visa had become the easiest way Nigerians could achieve this Japa dream, and they were making good use of it.

This method, although used unconsciously, has become the norm in Nigeria as it seems to be the only way.

Tiamiyu, a YouTuber has made himself an enemy of the country after a video of an interview he granted to the BBC went viral.

The UK government, on Tuesday, banned Nigerians from entering the country with family members/dependents while on a Masters degree program.

The new rule will take effect in January 2024.

The UK will also remove the permission for international students to switch out of the student route and into work routes before their studies have been completed.

This will prevent misuse of the visa system.

Emdee Tiamiyu granted an interview with the BBC.

He backed the ban while claiming that most Nigerians migrating to the UK use schooling as a ploy to gain entry into the country.
