The “Emilokan” politics instituted by President Bola Tinubu is one that would not be forgotten in a hurry.
The daring political strategy of Tinubu which stood against all odds to see his emergence as president, is the character Nigerians will always remember.
You see, this once revered political strategy is, however, gradually becoming a reason for mockery.
This is why Nigerian pastor and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tunde Bakare, said he warned that the “Emilokan” politics would lead to dictatorship.
Bakare is the Senior Pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as the Latter Rain Church.
He spoke on Sunday during a State of the Nation broadcast at his church in Ikeja, Lagos.
Emilokan (It Is My Turn)
President Tinubu made the famous “Emi lokan (It is my turn)” speech on June 2, 2022. It was given ahead of the 2023 election.
Basically, people say Tinubu had noticed a seeming lack of support from the then President and reported opposition by key members of the Presidency.
The fiery cleric said he had warned against the politics of entitlement.
According to him, it would slide towards an imperial presidency and would be intolerant of dissent voices.
“I’m reminded of the warning that I sounded to Nigerians in January 2023 in my address titled, ‘Bridging the gap between politics and governance.
“I warned that the politics of entitlement; the ’emilokan’ type of politics, would breed an imperial presidency, one that would slide towards dictatorship and would be intolerant of dissent.”
