As president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, prepares for inauguration, some politicians are doing their best to make sure they fit into one position or the other.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, says he is not one of them.

In a statement made on Saturday, El-Rufai said: “I am not going to be any Chief of Staff to the president-elect”.

He said he prefers to be a key player in the private sector, where he can provide useful advice to anyone who is interested.

On Saturday, the Kaduna governor spoke about the insinuation during the commissioning of the Gombe Geographic Information Systems service center in Gombe.

“I’ll be leaving in 22 days, but I’ll be available whenever you need a troublemaker,” he said.

“I will work in the private sector and will not be a chief of staff.

“I’ll take a break and give advice to people like governor Inuwa Yahaya who need it.”

No Discussion With President-elect

He went on to say: “I have not had the discussion with the president-elect, and I don’t want to speculate.

“I read the newspaper and see that I have a variety of portfolios assigned to me.

“I’m a committed Nigerian who wants to see my country progress, and whatever I can do to help with development, I will do, but I don’t have to do it by working in government.

“People working in the private sector or civil society contribute to the growth and development of our country in one way or another. I will never give up working for Nigeria’s advancement.”

Speculation is rife over who will make up the new government, with current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, considered favourite for the Chief of Staff position.

Tinubu had at Chatham House given a few names as persons he would assign questions to to provide answers to Nigerians.

Those names he mentioned are the reason most persons are speculating on who will hold one position or the other.
