Google is still trying to recover from a recent loss and convince the public that its newly developed chatbot is worth it.

Bard really made things bad and investors are feeling the heat.

At its launch, the chatbot provided a wrong answer and now it may not be able to rival Open AI’s ChatGPT.

Alphabet, the mother company of Google had its shares sink by over 7% on Wednesday equating to $100bn.

Only days ago, Google announced the launch of its chatbot after ChatGPT reached over a million users.

Rival tech giant, Microsoft was also rumoured to have an interest in making the chatbot exclusive to Bing.

How Bard Misinformed A Nine-Year-Old 

In the promotion for Bard which Google released on Monday, the bot was asked to inform a nine-year-old about the discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope.

The AI tool responded with three bullet points/ Sadly, in those points laid bare the flaws of the machine which is supposed to be intelligent.

The last point incorrectly states that the JWST, which launched in December 2021, took the “very first pictures” of an exoplanet outside our solar system.

However, the first image of an exoplanet was taken by the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in 2004, NASA says.

Investors were disappointed by a presentation by the company on its plans to deploy AI in its products.

A spokesperson for Google said the error highlighted “the importance of a rigorous testing process, something that we’re kicking off this week with our Trusted Tester Programme”.

The spokesperson said the company will “combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and roundedness in real-world information.”

Critics have said that Google was in a hurry to release the AI as a result of panic that ChatGPT had triggered.
