A 39-year-old man, Olusegun Olubayo, on Thursday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly refusing to return N200, 000 that his customer mistakenly transferred into his bank account.
Olubayo, a resident of Magbon Alade in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State , is facing a charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec.17, 2020 at Gbetu Town in Ibeju-Lekki.
He said that the defendant, a supplier of diesel, stole N200, 000 from one of his customers, one Mr Adekunle Ali.
“Ali’s employees notified him that a supplier had brought him diesel and he thought that it was the defendant.
Ali told Olubayo to send his bank account details to him and Ali transferred N200, 000 into the account.
“After Ali had realised that it was not Olubayo that supplied him the diesel, he demanded for a refund and since December he has failed to pay,” the prosecutor said.
Ekundayo said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Mrs A.M. Olumide-Fusika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 23 for trial. (NAN)
