Grammy-winning South African singer, Tyla, has responded after Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage apologised to African-Americans on her behalf over her controversial “coloured” remarks.
Tyla had earlier sparked backlash in the United States after identifying as “coloured”

This is a term widely used in South Africa to describe people of mixed descent, but one that carries a painful history in America, where it is deemed offensive.
During her appearance on The Breakfast Club, Tiwa Savage apologised to the Black American community on Tyla’s behalf.
Also, she positioned herself as the ‘Water’ hitmaker’s “elder.”
Her apology, however, angered many South Africans.
Many accused Tiwa Savage of overstepping and misrepresenting their racial identity and terminology.
Tyla has now distanced herself from Savage’s remarks.
She makes a bold statement during her performance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York.
Before performing her hit track Mr Media, she declared: “Sorry, I am not sorry.”
The declaration has been interpreted as a subtle but firm rejection of Savage’s apology.
This is a move that has earned Tyla widespread praise from her South African supporters.
