1. An FCT High Court, on Monday, sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for stabbing to death her husband, Bilyaminu, son of a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello.
Delivering judgment, Justice Yusuf Halilu, convicted her on circumstantial evidence.
2. An aircraft operated by Afghanistan’s state-owned airline Ariana, Monday, crashed in the country’s central Ghazni province.
Arif Noori, a spokesman for the provincial governor’s office in Ghazni city, said: “A Boeing plane belonging to the Ariana Afghan Airline, has crashed in the Sado Khel area of Deh Yak district of Ghazni province around 1:10 p.m. local time.”
3. The popular Sabo market in Sagamu, Ogun State has reportedly been engulfed in fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, as many shops and properties are affected.
4. The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahya Bello, on Monday, called on all and sundry, friends and perceived foes, to put aside all differences of politics, ideology or affiliation and join hands with him to give the state the best of governance.
He made the call during his second term inauguration as the governor of Kogi State, which was administered by the Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah in Lugard House Lokoja on Monday.
5. Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has assured that the Southwest geopolitical zone has no plans to secede from Nigeria in the heat of the controversy generated by the launch of Western Nigeria Security Network code-named Operation Amotekun.
Dr. Fayemi said the Southwest region remains part of Nigeria, will continue to be part of Nigeria and remain committed to a united and indivisible Nigeria.
6. The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has narrated how he narrowly escaped death after suspected herdsmen shot at him in his farm.
Ortom said he was shot while in his farm located along Makurdi – Naka road in Makurdi, Benue state capital.
7. The Bauchi State government, on Monday, announced the sudden resignation of Alhaji Abubakar Kari, Chief of Staff to Gov. Bala Mohammed.
A statement issued by Gidado and made available to newsmen on Monday in Bauchi, said Kari had voluntarily resigned his appointment.
8. Ayoola Babalola, the journalist arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) and charged with offences, including incitement and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, has been granted bail.
His lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, announced, Monday night, that his client regained freedom after meeting bail conditions.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned attacks that resulted in the death of 13 persons in Plateau State, assuring that terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and associated crimes will be defeated.
Buhar described the latest attack as shocking and sad incident and should be condemned by all citizens.
10. Nasarawa State Government has confirmed an outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.
Mr Ahmed Yahaya, the state Commissioner for Health, told journalists on Monday in Lafia, that a patient, resident at Mararaba Gurku in Karu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state was diagnosed with the disease, adding that the case was confirmed by doctors at Garki General Hospital, Abuja.
