In Abuja, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) addressed growing online confusion by confronting a fake X account.
Fake X Account Warning

The account, which uses the name “Nigeria National Grid,” falsely spreads information about Nigeria’s electricity grid operations.

NISO firmly stated that it has no connection to the account and does not control it.

Furthermore, the organisation warned that the account actively spreads misleading content that confuses the public.

As electricity concerns rise during grid disturbances, public attention often intensifies across the country.

Consequently, NISO noted that misinformation spreads quickly in such sensitive moments.

In its Saturday statement, NISO urged Nigerians, media houses, and stakeholders to ignore the account completely.

It also stressed that unknown individuals run the page without any authorisation from the organisation.

NISO Clarifies Official Channels

In addition, NISO clarified that it does not recognise or endorse any content from the page.

The agency explained that only its verified platforms and official website provide accurate grid updates.

Therefore, it rejected any attempt to link the unauthorised account to its communications.

Moreover, NISO said the clarification helps protect public understanding and prevents unnecessary panic in the sector.

It also emphasised that accurate information strengthens stability in Nigeria’s electricity market operations.

Public Alert On Misinformation

Meanwhile, NISO encouraged the public to report any misuse of its name or identity online.

It reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and responsible communication with all stakeholders.

Established by NERC on April 20, 2024, NISO manages Nigeria’s national electricity grid.

Additionally, BPE and MOFI jointly own the organisation as equal shareholders.

Later, President Bola Tinubu appointed its board members in March 2025 reforms.

Finally, NISO reiterated that only official channels should be trusted as the sector continues evolving.
