Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Solomon Akiyesi has reportedly passed away, leaving a wave of grief across Nigeria’s film industry.

The news was confirmed on Monday by Abubakar Yakubu, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

According to him, Akiyesi died quietly in his sleep on Sunday. He explained that the actor had gone to bed as usual but never woke up.

Yakubu also disclosed that Akiyesi’s remains have been deposited in a morgue in Abuja, where the incident occurred.

Further details surrounding the circumstances of his passing are still being awaited from his family.

A native of Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, Akiyesi began his acting journey in the late 1990s.

Over the decades, he built an impressive legacy in Nollywood, featuring in more than 100 films and earning recognition for his versatility on screen.

Some of his notable works include Marry Who You Love, Kiss My Pain, Joy of Nakasha, Heart of a Saint, Deadly Affair, Gen Z Wife, Olaedo The Fisher Girl, Pretty Liars, The End Is Near, and Desperate Ladies.

Since the announcement of his death, tributes have poured in from fans, colleagues, and industry stakeholders, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate his life and contributions to Nigerian cinema.

His passing comes just weeks after the death of another Nollywood veteran, Davis Offor, widely remembered for his role as Clarus in the classic sitcom The New Masquerade—a double loss that has further shaken the entertainment community.
