Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi paid a visit on Monday to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence in Abuja.

Obi was accompanied by a delegation of prominent figures from the South-East, though the exact purpose of the meeting has not been officially disclosed.
However, political observers suggest the visit may be part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Meanwhile, Jonathan has addressed recent remarks made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar concerning his time in office.
Atiku, speaking during a televised interview, had described Jonathan as well-meaning but lacking sufficient experience, arguing that this affected his handling of national challenges while serving as president.
Responding at the 2025 awards ceremony of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria held in Abuja, Jonathan dismissed the criticism, emphasizing that mistakes are an unavoidable part of leadership.
He noted that no individual who has held positions such as governor or president can claim to have governed without errors.
Reflecting on his tenure, Jonathan pointed out that he assumed office in 2010 at the age of 53 and completed his term in 2015 at 58, questioning the notion that he was “too young” to lead.

Jonathan maintained that, like any leader, he faced challenges but remained committed to making the best decisions possible during his time in office, adding that imperfection is a natural part of human responsibility in governance.
