Red Line rail is shaping a new story of movement across Lagos State.
Lagos actively pushes plans to improve transport and reduce traffic congestion across the state.

Red Line Rail Expansion Talks
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed ongoing talks to extend the Red Line into Ogun State.
Government aims to build connected system linking rail, road and water transport.
The announcement came through the Governor’s media adviser, Gboyega Akosile, on Wednesday.
The Red Line already operates between Oyingbo and Agbado in Lagos State.
Meanwhile engineers continue constructing second phase extending line to Marina station.
This extension directly connects Red Line with Blue Line rail network in Lagos.
Ogun Extension Plan
Sanwo-Olu explained that the project supports commuters travelling daily between Lagos and Ogun.
He also said the Red Line serves as a high-capacity transport corridor.
Red Line aims to ease pressure on heavily used metropolitan routes.
The Red Line will run eight-car trains while the Blue Line runs four-car sets.
Consequently it will carry up to 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational.
Furthermore the Governor said expansion into Ogun will improve regional transport efficiency.
Lagos also increases rolling stock to strengthen rail service capacity significantly.
Recently the state received 24-car train sets to boost Red Line operations.

Capacity And Integration
In addition planners integrate water transport including the Omi-Eko project into the system.
The Red Line spans 37 kilometres across key urban transport corridors.
Phase one covers 27 kilometres between Agbado and Oyingbo stations.
Construction began in April 2021 under the state rail development programme.
Passenger services started in October 2024 after successful trial operations.
The line includes stations at Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Yaba and others.
It shares tracks with the Nigerian Railway Corporation along the Lagos–Ibadan corridor.
The project forms part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan.
This plan envisions six rail lines across the rapidly growing state.
Currently only the Blue and Red Lines operate as active routes.
Future plans will extend the Red Line further to Marina station.
This extension will improve connectivity across major transport corridors in Lagos.
Meanwhile Lagos also plans the Green Line rail project expansion.
The Green Line will run from Lekki Free Zone to Marina.
It will pass through Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah districts.
The government supports the project with federal and international partners.
However construction on the Green Line has not yet begun.
Overall these rail projects aim to modernise transport and reduce congestion.
