The Recording Academy announced that the iconic musician Fela Kuti, widely celebrated as the “King of Afrobeat,” will be honoured at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The recognition marks a symbolic reconciliation between Fela’s revolutionary sound and the global music establishment he openly criticised throughout his lifetime.

The event will take place one day ahead of the main 68th Grammy Awards ceremony.
