A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday, January 30, 2026, granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie bail in the sum of N5 million over allegations of cyberbullying fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

Delivering his ruling on the bail application filed by Okorie’s counsel, Earnest Nwoye, Justice Emeka Nwite held that although the prosecution opposed the request, there was no concrete evidence before the court to suggest that the defendant would abscond if released on bail.
“In the interest of justice, I am minded to grant the bail,” the judge said, noting that the grant of bail lies within the discretion of the court, which must be exercised judicially and judiciously.
Justice Nwite admitted Okorie to bail with one surety in like sum.
The surety is required to be a level 13 civil servant and must depose to an affidavit of means.
The court further directed that the surety present an appointment letter and evidence of their most recent promotion.
The judge also ordered Angela Okorie and her surety to submit two passport photographs each to the court registrar, adding that the residence of the surety must be verified.
The case was adjourned until March 23, 2026, for trial. Pending the perfection of the bail conditions, Justice Nwite ordered that Okorie be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
