Popular American YouTuber IShowSpeed, real name Darren Watkins Jr, is set to receive a Ghanaian passport following his recent visit to the country during his live-streamed Africa tour.

The 21-year-old content creator made Ghana one of the final stops on his tour across 20 African countries, tagged “Speed Does Africa,” which officially concluded on Tuesday, January 28, 2026.
His visit drew massive attention as he explored local cultures and interacted with fans.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that his office had approved the passport, describing IShowSpeed as a “worthy ambassador” for both Ghana and the African continent.
The decision came after the YouTuber confirmed his Ghanaian heritage during one of his live streams, revealing that his mother is Ghanaian.
Ablakwa encouraged IShowSpeed to continue positively representing Ghana and Africa, adding that the country celebrates his efforts in showcasing African culture and challenging stereotypes.
IShowSpeed, who boasts over 50 million YouTube subscribers, received global praise for the tour, which highlighted African traditions and landmarks to an international audience.
However, the announcement sparked debate online.
While many Ghanaians welcomed the decision, some critics argued that granting a passport to a foreign celebrity could devalue the national document.
