The King Kosoko Royal Family has declared veteran Nollywood actor and royal prince, Jide Kosoko, as the Oloja of Lagos-elect.
The family made the declaration at the King Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island. Royal family members and invited guests attended the event.
The Olori Ebi General, Alhaja Mutiat Ashabi Ali-Balogun, formally presented Jide Kosoko. She raised his hand in line with tradition.
The gesture confirmed his emergence as the family’s chosen candidate.
The Deputy Olori Ebi General, Alhaja Oyindamola Ayepola, also endorsed the decision. She spoke on behalf of the Meshimo Ruling House.
The royal family said it followed all traditional processes. It stressed that lineage and custom guided the selection.
The Oloja of Lagos stool has remained vacant since December 2017.
Jide Kosoko now holds the title of Oloja-elect. He awaits official installation and capping by the Oba of Lagos.
Jide Kosoko is a respected cultural figure. He has spent decades promoting Yoruba history and values.
The Oloja title remains one of Lagos’ oldest traditional offices. The royal family expressed confidence in his leadership.
