Water disruption hits Ikeja, Ogudu, and surrounding areas as residents prepare for temporary supply loss.
The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) announced on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, that engineers will carry out urgent repairs at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.

Urgent Repairs On Water Disruption Underway
This disruption follows a major leak on the ND1600mm Adiyan raw water pipeline at the Akute Intake Station.
Consequently, water has been flowing into the surrounding soil, weakening the ground and creating safety hazards.
As a result, heavy machinery, including cranes and excavators, cannot operate safely at the Adiyan Phase II construction site.
Therefore, LWC has decided to temporarily shut down Adiyan I to allow technicians to repair and replace the damaged pipeline.
Areas Affected
The shutdown will affect areas including Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Maryland, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, and parts of Lagos Island.
Meanwhile, the corporation assured residents that workers are intensifying efforts to restore water supply as quickly as possible.
Lagos has faced similar disruptions before.

For example, a major pipeline leak near Maryland Mall in January 2025 halted production at both Iju and Adiyan I waterworks, cutting supply to many districts.
Looking Ahead
The Adiyan Phase II project will produce 70 million gallons daily and expand Lagos’ total water supply.
Combined with Adiyan Phase I and Iju waterworks, the city’s output will reach 100 million gallons per day.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab explained that most residents still rely on boreholes while engineers complete the project.
He confirmed that the government expects Adiyan Phase II to finish by the last quarter of 2027, improving reliable water access.
Finally, residents are urged to plan ahead, conserve water, and manage daily needs during this temporary disruption.
