Destiny Boy, who rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If went viral, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, following complications from an illness locally referred to as “Ogu oru,” which often triggered seizures.

Sadia’s Statement

In a video that surfaced online on Monday, Saida explained that the family had managed the condition privately for years with the help of medical professionals, traditional healers, and clerics.

She noted that the decision to keep his illness away from the public eye was due to his status as a rising music star.

According to her, the singer suffered a major episode shortly after the naming ceremony of his child.

She recounted how Destiny Boy collapsed during a visit to Oba Edu Ifayomi, a traditional ruler who had initiated and treated him like a son.

He was subsequently rushed to the hospital and later transferred between medical facilities, with Oba Edu reportedly providing financial support throughout his treatment.

Saida said the family later explored traditional treatment options when the illness persisted, adding that Destiny Boy initially responded positively before suffering another seizure days later.

She firmly denied rumours linking her son’s death to money rituals, describing such claims as baseless and attention-seeking. “Destiny Boy was not involved in money rituals,” she stated.

Recalling his final days, Saida revealed that the singer was active and hopeful, having interacted with fans and prepared for a scheduled performance before another seizure occurred.

Destiny Boy had recently welcomed his first child in November 2024.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that investigations into the singer’s death are ongoing, with assurances that further updates will be made public.
