Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again rewritten history as her latest movie, Behind The Scenes.
It recorded an unprecedented ₦2.103 billion at the box office within just one month of release.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2025 and shattered five opening-weekend records.
This includes the biggest single-day haul on Boxing Day with ₦129.5 million.
Reacting to the milestone, FilmOne confirmed that Behind The Scenes is the first Nollywood film to surpass the ₦2 billion mark.
Also, it makes it the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time across Africa, the UK, and Ireland.
The achievement also positions Akindele as the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
The blockbuster marks Akindele’s third film to gross over ₦1 billion.
This further cements her status as West Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, writer, director, and producer.
Industry observers have attributed the film’s success to its strategic advanced screenings, star-studded cast, and a relatable storyline centred on family, loyalty, and social pressures.
Performances from Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana were particularly praised by audiences.
