The 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) delivered one of its most touching highlights of the year as Tanzanian singer Juma Jux emerged Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, a victory that went beyond music and straight to the heart.

While the award recognised his artistry and growing influence, it was Juma Jux’s emotional celebration that truly stole the spotlight.
In a moment now trending across social media, the singer dedicated his win to his family, with special mention of his young son, Rakeem, drawing loud applause from the audience.
The night’s defining scene came when Juma Jux stepped down from the stage and presented the award to his mother-in-law, renowned
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, who was seated among the crowd.
Visibly moved, the actress fondly called the “Queen Mother” rose to receive the plaque as the singer embraced her warmly, a gesture widely praised as a sign of respect, gratitude, and strong family bonds.
The win caps a remarkable period for the artiste, who recently wrapped up a successful concert in Lagos.
Juma Jux has openly credited both Iyabo Ojo and his wife, Priscilla Ojo, for helping expand his fan base and visibility in Nigeria.
Clips of the heartfelt exchange have since flooded social media, with fans applauding Iyabo Ojo’s unwavering support and dubbing her the “ultimate mother-in-law,” while others jokingly hailed the moment as proof of the widely talked-about “Iyabo Ojo effect.”
