In a society where wealth is now measured by how loudly you flaunt it, billionaire businessman Dr. Cosmas Maduka, founder of Coscharis Group, has poured cold water on the “money na water” trend popular among Nigerian socialites.

Taking a subtle jab at celebrity figures like Cubana Chief Priest and others known for extravagant displays, Maduka stated that true wealth is quiet, disciplined, and purpose-driven.
“I have never heard Tony Elumelu say ‘money na water.’ I’ve never heard Femi Otedola say it, and I’ve never said it myself,” Maduka remarked passionately.
“When I attend a function and people start throwing money in the air, I quietly walk away. This madness must stop.”
According to him, the culture of spraying money and flaunting riches at every turn represents a “dead value system” that corrupts morals and misleads young Nigerians.
The billionaire lamented that humility and modesty, once the trademarks of true wealth, have been replaced by noise and pride.
“When we were growing up, rich people didn’t make noise,” he said.
“All these people making noise today never made real money. We’ve embraced a deadly culture and are now passing it on to our children. That’s not how to build a value-driven society.”

Maduka concluded by urging Nigerians to reject the ‘money na water’ mindset.
Also, he warns that it erodes discipline, hard work, and integrity, the true building blocks of lasting wealth.
