When the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) ended its Expired Visa Amnesty on September 30, 2025, many foreigners faced uncertainty.
To address this, the NIS offers a new opportunity.

Starting October 13, 2025, the Service will launch the Post-Amnesty Voluntary Return and Documentation Programme (PAVRDP).
Foreigners can now regularise their stay or return home voluntarily without immediate penalties.
How To Register Post-Amnesty
NIS Public Relations Officer, AS Akinlabi, explained that officials will review each case individually, following the Immigration Act of 2015 and related regulations.
To participate, foreigners must visit their nearest Immigration Command for registration and documentation.

Authorities will assess each case and decide the proper action.
Warnings And Compliance
However, the NIS warns that those who ignore this chance and remain in Nigeria illegally will face arrest, detention, and deportation, plus long-term entry bans.
The Service also reminded the public that harbouring or assisting illegal immigrants is a crime.
Companies and individuals must follow immigration laws to avoid prosecution.
Ultimately, the NIS says the programme ensures humane, effective migration management, balancing national security with fairness and dignity for all residents.
