Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has criticised U.S. President Donald Trump for his recent comments on the security situation in Nigeria.
He insisted that facing illness or personal challenges does not mean he would accept assistance from a leader he considers unstable.

In a recent interview, Soyinka condemned Trump’s remarks on alleged targeted attacks against Christians in Nigeria.
Also, he describes the statements as overly simplistic and lacking proper understanding of the country’s complex realities.
“You don’t simply announce that you’re coming to assist through force without first examining the origins and layers of the conflict,” he said.
He faulted Trump for making sweeping declarations without nuance.
Wole Soyinka emphasised that Nigeria’s security challenges are not driven by a single religious narrative, adding that both Christians and Muslims have experienced losses.
Also, he highlighted his discussions with different communities, noting that the situation varies across regions and must be treated with sensitivity and factual grounding.
He also cautioned that reckless comments from influential global figures could inflame tensions rather than calm them.
