Lagos residents are bracing for power cuts as the Eko Electricity Distribution Company warns of a four-day maintenance shutdown.
The disruption, set to begin on Monday, follows a Transmission Company of Nigeria plan to repair the Omotosho–Ikeja West power line—work deemed critical but likely to trigger intermittent blackouts across key areas of the city.

On Friday, EKEDC issued a customer notice announcing that the planned outage will begin on Monday, July 28 and continue through Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The outage will occur daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Critical Power Line Repairs
Specifically, TCN will carry out maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, a critical link in the power supply to parts of Lagos.
EKEDC explained that the repairs aim to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the power grid.
Lagos Electricity To Face 4-Day Maintenance Blackout
As a result, residents in EKEDC’s service areas should expect intermittent blackouts and load shedding throughout the period.
To prepare for the disruptions, EKEDC urged customers to plan ahead and take necessary precautions.

“Please note that our partner, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), will interrupt power supply to enable their team to safely perform vital work,” EKEDC stated in the notice.
Long-Term Reliability Goals
To address customer concerns, the company acknowledged the inconvenience the outage may cause.
However, it emphasised that routine maintenance remains crucial for ensuring long-term system stability.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.
Please bear with us during this necessary operation,” the company added.
Ultimately, while many Lagosians continue to rely on generators due to inconsistent power supply, this planned outage reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure—one upgrade at a time.
