Indeed, President Bola Tinubu is confident that his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda can build a trillion-dollar economy within the next decade.

He explained that this can be achieved by leveraging the nation’s population and resources by focusing on Nigeria’s full economic potential.

This was revealed in a statement by presidential media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, on Tuesday.

According to the President, “the trillion-dollar economy is something we can achieve, we just need to do the right things”.

He stated this in Abuja on Tuesday at the opening session of the 2023 National Engineering Conference, Exhibition, and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

A Trillion-Dollar Economy

Tinubu, represented by Vice President, Kashim Shettima, maintained that Nigeria, with its rich population and resources, could become a trillion-dollar economy within the next 10 years.

He said the ambitious target could not be achieved without key elements found in the theme of the NSE Conference.

The President said those elements were “Manufacturing, Competitiveness, and Economic Growth”.

Furthermore, Tinubu noted that his administration was committed to unleashing Nigeria’s full economic potential.

Here is how the President puts it.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda of my administration is defined by our commitment to unleashing our country’s full economic potential.

“We shall focus on job creation, inclusiveness, the rule of law, and the fight against hunger, poverty, and corruption,” Tinubu said.

Also, the President said he was aware of the hardship most Nigerians were facing but gave assurance that “difficult times are indeed temporary, but the benefits will be permanent”.

He also reeled out his administration’s efforts in transforming the economy and creating opportunities for citizens.

“We are having engagements with stakeholders across Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

“I am very much aware of the problems and challenges that are uppermost in your minds.

“Some of which include; access to low-cost capital, multiple taxation, infrastructure issues, foreign exchange, and export obstacles, among others.

“All these issues are being tackled, with unprecedented boldness and decisiveness,” he said.

Tinubu Plans To Increase Tax Revenue

On taxation, President Tinubu explained that his administration’s goal was to increase the country’s tax revenues and reduce the burden on individuals and businesses at the same time.

“We shall streamline the number of taxes, be more efficient, and block the loopholes through which leakages occur.”

Assuring Nigerians further, he said: “We can and will deliver less burdensome tax regimes to businesses and employers of labor”.
