The president of the United States, Joe Biden has declared his intention to run for a second term in 2024.

He announced his intent in a video released by his team on Tuesday.

Biden says the contest next year is against “Republican extremism” noting that he needs more time to fulfill his vow to restore the US’ character.

“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are,” he said in the video.

“The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom.

“More rights or fewer.

“I know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too.

“This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for reelection,” Biden adds.

As it stands, Biden is expected to face no real threat in the bid for the presidential ticket in the Democratic party.

He would be competing against Marianne Williamson; a self-help guru, and Robert Kennedy; an anti-vaccine and environmental activist, for the party’s ticket.

However, Biden may be facing former US president Donald Trump, who already launched his third bid for office in November.
