Over the past few days, the Kenyan government, security operatives, and Red Cross have had their hands full.

They have been working to exhume the bodies of victims of a ‘starvation cult’.

The victims were followers of the Good News International Church who were told by their leader to starve to death.

On Tuesday, Kenyan investigators exhumed 10 more bodies from mass graves linked to the starvation cult, bringing the total number of victims to 83.

The 10 bodies recovered on Tuesday included three children and two emaciated survivors were also found, according to the AFP journalist.

Furthermore, as the toll rises, authorities at the state-run Malindi Sub-County Hospital warn that the morgue was running out of space to store the bodies.

“The hospital mortuary has a capacity of 40 bodies,” says the hospital’s administrator Said Ali.

Ali says officials have reached out to the Kenya Red Cross for refrigerated containers.

Hussein Khalid, the executive director of the rights group Haki Africa that tipped off the police, urges the authorities to send more rescuers to scour the 800-acre area forest for survivors.

“Each day that passes by there is very high possibility that more are dying,” he told AFP.

“The horror that we have seen over the last four days is traumatising.

“Nothing prepares you for shallow mass graves of children,” Khalid adds.

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome told reporters on Monday that 29 people had been rescued and taken to hospital.
