The killing of a final year student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Desmond, aka Mayor is set to dent the image of the school.
Hence, the management of the institution condemns the act.
Desmond, was a student of the Department of Public Administration.
He was also a Kegite chief, he was shot in the face at close range.
The incident occurred at about 9:00pm on Monday.
UNIBEN Condemns Mayor’s Murder
On Tuesday the school’s spokesperson, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, spoke on the incident.
Ehanire says the gruesome killing of the Mayor occurred in one of the halls of residence.
She says the act was carried out by a yet to be identified gunman.
The management says it is working closely with the police and its internal security agency to apprehend the killer.

“The management of the University of Benin condemns the brutal and sad killing of a final year male student, known mostly as ‘Mayor’ (real name withheld) on the night of Monday 3 March 2023.
“The gruesome shooting occurred in one of the halls of residence and was carried out by yet to be identified gunman.

“Management is also working closely with the internal security units.
“To ensure that such dastardly incident does not occur again within the university’s premises,” the statement read.
