One would think that medical doctors, by the ethics of their profession, are in a better position to understand the implication of raping their patients.
It is rather unfortunate that stories like this desecrate the noble profession that’s supposed to save lives, not the opposite.
On Friday, May 12, the Kwara State Police Command brought to the public a case of a medical doctor identified as Ayodele Joseph.
They say he is allegedly a specialist in sedating and raping patients in his hospital in Ilorin, the capital of the state.
While parading the suspect, the State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, said on the May 5 that a female victim who is a nurse by profession reported to the police that she went to Ayodele’s Hospital located in the Sawmill Area, Lagos Road, Ilorin, for a surgery, but got raped.

She explained that when viewing the recorded video, she discovered that Doctor Ayodele Joseph had unlawful sexual intercourse with her while under sedation.
The Commissioner noted that the investigation led to the recovery of the video recording of the sexual action of the said doctor on the victim and was supported by the results of medical examinations conducted on the victim.
The police boss added that Ayodele would also be arraigned by the police over unprofessional conduct that resulted in the death of Nneka Akanike at his hospital.
