‘Stop Appointing Chiefs’ — Akeredolu Warns Traditional Rulers

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has warned traditional rulers against appointing minor Chiefs outside their jurisdiction.

This statement was made by his Deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who represented him at the official presentation of the instrument of appointment and Staff of Office to Oba Kalejaye Rotimi Williams, the Monehin of Obinehin, in Ilaje, on Friday.

Aiyedatiwa said, “Every Oba in the State should refrain from appointing or installing minor chiefs outside their jurisdiction particularly in disputed areas.

“As our administration will continue to strive to promote and enhance the position of our traditional rulers, it is also expected that government’s efforts will be reciprocated through conscious and deliberate actions aiming at supporting the government and complementing it’s efforts.

“We believe that through the instrumentality of traditional administration, our Royal Fathers should continue to play their roles as stakeholders in the security of their various communities and equally assist the security agents in intelligence gathering to curb the menace of insecurity in our dear state,” he added.

He also encouraged the new monarch to ensure to serve the people first as it was his divine calling to do so

“The instrument of power conferred on you today should be employed to strengthen the peace and cohesion of your domain and that of the State in general.

“The unity of your people is your strength and this should be explored for the socio-economic uplifting of your community,” the governor said.
