The Senate on Wednesday observed a one-minute silence to honor the catholic priest who was slain in Niger.

The priest, Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi, was burnt to death in the Paikoro Local Government area in Niger State, two weeks ago.

The lawmakers also called for the probe and arrest of the culprits.

The Catholic priest was burnt alive in his church by suspected terrorists on January 15.

The point of order was raised by the Niger-East lawmaker, Senator Sani Musa, who cited Orders 42 and 51 to seek the leave of the Senate to present a motion on the gruesome murder of Rev. Father Isaac Achi in Kaffinkoro town in the Psikoro local government area of Niger State.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said, “The Senate condemned in strongest terms, the gruesome murder of Rev. Father Isaac Achi and other natives killed alongside.

“The Senate urges the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation into this dastardly act and promptly arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.”

The Senate also, “urged the National Emergency Management Agency to urgently carry out construction work on the residence of the priest that was raised down.

“Condole with Bishop of Minna Diocese, Catholic Faithful and the bereaved family.”

The Senate, thereafter, condoled with the family of the deceased, the Bishop of Minna Diocese, and observed a one-minute silence in honor of the deceased.
