It has made the president declare a state of emergency on food scarcity in Nigeria.

Now, to avoid chaos and anarchy in Nigeria, which food scarcity could trigger, over 100 farmers are being empowered with farming skills by the Federal Government.

It is also targeted at achieving self-sufficiency in food. The training of farmers in Bauchi was organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Basically, the training focused on the production of rice, maize, wheat, yam and cassava to enable Nigeria to become self-sufficient in food production.

The state Coordinator of the ministry, Daniel Abarshi, said the Federal Government is committed to educating farmers.

Farmers Education

He made this known on Tuesday, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the training.

The coordinator of the ministry said: “While we are on a quest to achieve food security in the country, farmers would receive education on different value-chain crops.

Abarshi explained that the ministry had trained and empowered farmers across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

He commended Bauchi State for supporting the Federal Government’s fight against poverty.

Practice What You’ve Learnt

The Programme Manager, Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP), Jafaru Ilelah, wants deeper commitment from the trained farmers.

“Practice what you have learnt, he told participants.

He said this while applauding the ministry for the initiative.

Ilelah assured the farmers that the BSADP would develop the agricultural sector.

According to him, the programme would train farmers on various farming techniques they need to know.
