The secrecy and controversy around the death of Mohbad is something that worries Nigerians. Now, the coroner is stopping journalist from taking account of Mohbad inquest. 

On commencement of the inquest, journalists were barred from the Magistrate court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos.

As the inquest opens everyone present could feel the importance of the proceeding. It is all about the death of late Yoruba rapper, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad.

In his opening statements into Mohbad inquest, the Coroner, Magistrate Taofikat Adedayo Shotobi, reeled out the day’s proceedings.

According to him, the inquest for the day will discuss the modalities for hearing of evidence.

Most importantly, the hearing of the evidence is to commence on Friday, October 13.

Cause Of Justice

Femi Falana represented Mohbad’s family alongside other lawyers at the inquest.

Since journalists could not access the courtroom, Falana addressed them after the proceedings.

To him, the legal team would bring witnesses to the inquest to ensure justice is served.

Sadly, the coroner did not give reasons journalists for barring journalists from proceedings.

Although, with the lies and controversies surrounding Mohbad’s death, one could say it is a sensitive case.

Also, journalists would throw all discussions in the public as proceedings hold, and the inquest could be avoiding this circumstance.

Mysterious Circumstances

Meanwhile, the law firm of Falana & Falana Chamber wrote the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada, in a letter dated September 18, 2023.

He asked the coroner to unravel the circumstances surrounding the “very tragic” death of the late Mohbad under “mysterious” circumstances.

The coroner, Magistrate Shotobi replied to the firm’s letter.

She said she had the directives of the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Mojisola Dada.

The directive was to convoke an inquest pursuant to the extant provisions of Section 14 & 15 of the CORONER’S SYSTEM LAW of Lagos State, Cap C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The 27-year-old singer died in Lagos State on September 12.
