The social media space has been filled with mixed reactions after photos of the induction ceremony of 100-level students of the Department of Theatre Arts, Benue State University, Makurdi surfaced on the internet.

New students in year one dressed in white wrappers with significant drawings on their faces with lit white and red candles inside calabashes lined up as they paraded the school.

While many argued that the tradition of inducting 100-level students of the department had been in existence for decades and is also practised in other universities too, others strongly oppose it as they claimed that it looked like an initiation.
