A few hours ago, the CBN announced the intended 0.5% cybersecurity levy on bank transactions within Nigeria.
While Nigerians are still trying to assimilate this development, another directive has been rolled out that concerns POS operators.

The CBN has ordered all operators of this cash debiting machine in Nigeria to register their businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in two months.
This was revealed after a meeting between Fintechs and the Registrar-General/Chief Executive Officer, CAC, Hussaini Magaji (SAN) in Abuja on Monday, May 7.
The CAC boss said the two-month timeline for the registration will expire on July 7.
According to him the decision was not targeted at any groups or individuals.
It is “in line with legal requirements and the directives of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” the CBN said.
The statement read: “The Corporate Affairs Commission and Fintech companies in Nigeria, better known as PoS operators, have agreed to a two-month timeline to register their agents, merchants, and individuals with the CAC in line with legal requirements and the directives of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

POS Charges About To Go Up?
“The agreement was reached today during a meeting between Fintechs and the Registrar-General, CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, in Abuja.”
While many comment on this, saying it is a welcome development, as it would translate to added security for banking transactions, others had a different view.
However, this development may cause a rise in the fees of POS operators, as they may likely start paying tax upon the registration of their business.

In a circular, the central bank of Nigeria (CBN), directed to all commercial, merchant, non-interest, and payment service banks, among others; to start the implementation of the cybersecurity charges after two weeks of the information.
According to the circular signed by the Director, Payments System Management Department, Chibuzo Efobi; and the Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, Haruna Mustafa; the cybersecurity would commence two weeks from May 6, 2024.
“The levy shall be applied at the point of electronic transfer origination, then deducted and remitted by the financial institution. The deducted amount shall be reflected in the customer’s account with the narration, ‘Cybersecurity Levy”
However, the CBN exempted 16 banking transactions from the new cybersecurity levy. They are listed below:

Ten Hag’s Tittles
However, Ten Hag joined Ajax in 2017, where he won three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups, and led the team to the semi-finals of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League.

However, Owen believes that Steve McClaren, Ten Hag’s assistant, would potentially do a better job than the current boss and backed him to take the reins for the final few games in the season.

“We’ve played under Steve McClaren, he’s coached us, there’s no way that his fingerprints are anywhere near that team.”

Paul Scholes, who was also part of that England squad, suggested that Ten Hag does not pay heed to his assistant while drawing up the tactics.
“It suggests to me he’s not touching that team.
“The manager [Ten Hag] must not be letting him touch that team, I don’t think,” the Man United legend said.
“Everyone thinks we were a great team that attacked everyone and went at people, sometimes we played against better teams and Steve McClaren put better sessions on to make sure you stopped other teams, getting the distances right, getting your angles right, especially in centre midfield, across all midfield.
“And he has got no impression on that [Ten Hag] team whatsoever.
“He’s the best coach I ever had.”
Owen further added: “He’s a brilliant, brilliant coach.
“There’s no way on earth he’s got anything to do with coaching that team.
“It’s impossible. Because that team is absolutely clueless, right the way through it.
“There’s not one thing I think works in that team.
“I don’t rate anything about it.
“Steve McClaren is a top operator and I can only think he’s there and there are other people who are coaching the first team and he’s just a bystander.”

“It’s just embarrassing how they’re playing, something’s got to change.
“I know it’s going to change in the summer, but I think it’s got to change now.
“There’s European football next year, this is a trophy.”
