Inter Miami are reportedly looking to bring another Argentine in alongside Lionel Messi, with Federico Redondo lined up for an $8m (£6m) transfer.

The ambitious MLS outfit have set their sights on the 21-year-old midfielder, who is the son of former Real Madrid and AC Milan star Fernando Redondo.

According to the Miami Herald, a formal offer will be tabled to Argentinos Juniors for the highly-rated youngster.

If Redondo can be acquired, as cover for injured fellow countryman Facundo Farias, then he could occupy one of three U22 Initiative spots in Inter Miami’s squad.

If that were to be the case, then only $200,000 of his salary would count towards the club’s cap.

Inter Miami still have some work to do on the salary front before the start of the new MLS season on February 21 in order to be compliant.

Exits are expected, with at least one of those set to come in midfield as moves are made to bring Redondo on board.

However, the Herons, who have returned to the United States following their historic international tour of the Middle and Far East, have one more friendly to take in against Newell’s Old Boys – the hometown club of Messi and head coach Tata Martino – before opening their 2024 campaign at home to Real Salt Lake.
