The reason for the postponement is that they lack of enough time to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) for the election.

As a result, the electoral umpire chose March 18 as the new date.

CAN said candidates to be elected should be those who would ensure development and peaceful co-existence among the people.

What To Look Out For

The Niger chapter of the association has urged Christians to vote for only credible candidates.

“The elections will take place on March 18. I enjoin everyone to vote for candidates of their choice,” says Niger state CAN chairman, Bulus Yohanna.

Mr Yohanna said the state chapter consulted with the national body and decided that members must consider candidates’ character, competence, capacity, and policies before deciding who to vote for.

“He or she must have respect for religious and ethnic diversity,” the chairman said.

Also, he wants voters to know that the candidates must be compassionate, disciplined, and live a credible lifestyle.

In addition, they must not be cultists, religious fanatics, or involved in illicit drugs and must not have a relationship with bandits and thugs.

Mr Yohanna also urged voters to consider the antecedents of candidates in terms of performance in positions they occupied in the past.

Furthermore, the chairman urged Christians to pray and fast for the success of the elections.
