Lampard managed the Blues in 84 games, winning 44 but also losing 25.

According to a statement released by the club: “This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly.

“We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club.

“However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.

“While the end of his tenure was bleak, watching a club legend like Super Frank fail has been a bitter pill to swallow for Chelsea fans.

“We wish Frank Lampard the best for his future but the Blues need to focus on bringing in the right man to salvage the season and take us beyond.”

No further announcement on a replacement has been officially made yet, although reliable journalists have stated that Thomas Tuchel is favourite to take over.
